The Ethereum Foundation confirms the merger date, the Bellatrix upgrade is scheduled for September 6, and the final is expected between September 10–20
On August 25th, the Ethereum Foundation confirmed the time of the mainnet merger in a blog post. The Merge, must first be activated on the Beacon Chain with the Bellatrix upgrade. After this, the proof-of-work chain will migrate to proof-of-stake upon hitting a specific Total Difficulty value. The Bellatrix upgrade is scheduled for epoch 144896 on the Beacon Chain — 11:34am UTC on Sept 6, 2022.
Tornado Cash Dev to Spend Another 90 Days in Jail, Judge Rules
On August 25th, according to Crypto Briefing, a Netherlands judge has ruled that Alexey Pertsev, the developer who was arrested for publishing open-source code for the Tornado Cash protocol earlier this month, must spend at least a further 90 days in jail for his alleged involvement “in concealing criminal financial flows and facilitating money laundering” via Tornado Cash.
Tether Holds Firm on Decision Not To Freeze Tornado Cash Addresses, Awaits Law Enforcement Instruction
On August 25th, Tether issued an announcement saying that it insisted on the decision not to freeze the Tornado Cash address and waited for the instructions of law enforcement. So far, Tether has not been contacted by law enforcement with a request to freeze the addresses sanctioned by OFAC. Tether said it has been working closely with law enforcement worldwide to assist in investigations, including freezing addresses.
